Antique counter
This counter was used in a ham shop in Marseille, southern France.
This is a very old item from around the 1850s, but it is a valuable item in very good condition with the paint still intact from the time.
I purchased this item because I was attracted to the dignified and cool look of the peeling black paint, which gives it a sense of the passage of time.
With its zinc top, it is extremely practical as a counter for sales work, and its appearance brings to mind the image of ham being cut and measured.
There is a picture of a pig on the front, which is typical of shop fixtures, and it brings to mind a prosciutto shop that was bustling in a corner of Marseille.
